flaming pablum

the visual mercenary group chronicles is very pleased to announced that we’ve added flaming pablum to our blog roll. the flamming pablum blog is run by an old friend, alex smith. alex is a great writer and has been covering the NY punk and alternative music scene for years.

we love his writing style and the blog is a treasure trove of info, music, photos & video clips that will brings back a ton of memories. plus if you’re a balding old punk like me who moved out of loisaida years ago, this will revive hazy visions of dark nights on rivington st. circa 1987. if you didn’t live it, you’ll still enjoy the writing and you’ll even learn a thing or two that you may not have known.

favorite new time suck: stripgenerator.com

i think this may be my favorite new time suck. stripgenerator.com lets users create small 3 frame comic strips with little or no artistic talent. it’s a pretty cool flash app that let’s you add, position & scale a library full of little figures, items, beings, text boxes, etc… plus, it has a nifty little drag and drop interface that makes it very fun to play with. you can even add colors and upload your own graphics (still gotta figure that one out).

for us who have kids out there, you’ve most probably played the games on noggin.com and nickjr.com. of course they’re so saccharine and branded for our little ones that they’re no fun for adults, but stripgenerator lets adults play to their hearts delight - and let me tell you there are some pretty cool ones out there. you can even create a strip blog with the provided tools and invite friends to follow your characters.

if you thought that making little comics was kid’s play, you’ll be surprised at how difficult it actually is to put together a short story in 3 frames. it just proves once again the obsession with comic strips and why we love the sunday funnies. where’s my hagar?

oldest domains

oldest domains

while researching DNS and domain names i came across these two interesting lists, courtesy of tgdaily.com. the first is a list of the oldest domains and there are some pretty cool tidbits in the article. the second is the complete list of root domain names. this list contains all country, private and sponsored domains. so if you’re looking to buy a domain in kyrgyzstan or you find out you hace $18,000,000 in a bank with a country code of .nu, you’ll know where to look for it.
