A lot of New Yorkers don’t usually have any views of the sky or horizons. We are surrounded by buildings and are always on the go, its kind of hard to even have the time to ’stop and smell the roses’ of some of nature’s marvels. Recently on June 26,2009, New York City had an extraordinary looking cloud formation called Mammatus Clouds. These amazing clouds look as if they were brought in from another planets atmosphere.
A little info about Mammatus clouds (a name derived from the Latin word for breast). These clouds form from thunder clouds and have properties which are rarely seen. They have a bobbley downward protrusion that hold usually as little as 5 minutes and can rarely be seen lasting as long as an hour. They are produced entirely from water or a mixture of ice and water, they form an average of about once a year and are seen dramatically when the sun is at a low angle.

If you haven’t seen anything like this, then keep one eye in the sky and the next time you might witness some of these other worldy cloud formations.

i first mentioned my wife gina’s grand aunt, sister mary loyola (adelaide engel) last year in this post. well another year has past and today aunt ade turns 101 years old. pictured above (left to right) are fran iannozzi (my mother-in-law), aunt ade, sophia (my daughter) and gina. i’ve been shooting portraits of the ladies in egan lineage for 4 years. it’s amazing to see the progression. i’ll have to dig up the earliest photo from my archives and append this post.
aunt ade is a treasure and we’re incredibly blessed to have her in our lives. so aunt ade, we wish you the best and hope to celebrate your birthdays for many more years. as a parting note, one of her her saying: “The Present is a present”. talk about words to live by, for a long time.

…that’s just what Amnesty International created for a campaign designed to raise awareness of domestic violence. The interactive poster (which just won a Cannes Silver Lion this week) was set up in a bus stop in Berlin. Look at the poster and you’ll see a nice couple posing next to each other, but look away and the imagery shifts to something much darker, further driving home the copy “It happens when nobody is watching.” This smart poster utilizes a camera to capture the motion and update the image. Pretty clever, and with a great message.
