oldest domains
while researching DNS and domain names i came across these two interesting lists, courtesy of tgdaily.com. the first is a list of the oldest domains and there are some pretty cool tidbits in the article. the second is the complete list of root domain names. this list contains all country, private and sponsored domains. so if you’re looking to buy a domain in kyrgyzstan or you find out you hace $18,000,000 in a bank with a country code of .nu, you’ll know where to look for it.

freeze frame of lightning
i noticed this a couple of days ago in usa today. it was only a matter of time before someone pointed the lens of the new high shutter speed cameras at lightning. the results are pretty fantastic, literally capturing the speed of light.
so while searching for the what types of cameras were used, i came across a couple of sites that were really cool. ztresearch has some pretty cool videos of actual lightning, while vision research has a great video gallery with work they have done with the Phantom HD camera. enjoy and i’ll see if i can dig up some more.

natural chemicals from wired magazine
we all know that as natural habitats are destroyed scientists are losing the opportunity to discover new chemicals & medicine. wired magazine - one of my favorite magazines i must say - has put together a nice little photo essay on the subject. with the loss of rain forest and ocean habitats and the species that live within, many useful naturally occurring medicines many be lost to discovery for many years to come.
